Hi, my name is Richenda but people call me Roo.
I live on the coast of North Devon, in a cosy little flat with a stunning sea view. I share this wonderful space with my beautiful daughter, my tiny terrier dog and a very fluffy cat.
I’m a trained Holistic Therapist and a member of the Federation of Holistic Therapists (FHT), with an interest in all things connected with well-being and in particular, our relationship with food.
One of my first profound memories of food was when I was 5 years old and I wanted to know where meat came from. My mother never being the type to sugar coat anything, explained in quite gory detail the ill treatment of animals and slaughter. She has been a veggie most of her life and I think secretly she was waiting for that moment to convert me. I was (to my Mothers delight I’m sure) utterly horrified and from that moment on I’ve eaten a vegetarian diet.
Over the years I have taken a more serious interest in food. Not just from a political aspect, but the healing benefits that it can bring to our health and happiness.
I unquestionably love to eat. There’s nothing I like more than sitting down with a slab of cake and a nice cuppa. I’m pretty sure it nourishes the soul!
So with my interest in food, in particular the sweet variety and health, I began experimenting with the intention of making delicious cakes that little bit ‘healthier’ for you. Over time I adopted this approach with all my meals, asking myself ‘Will this nourish my body? Is it cruelty-free? It is sustainable?’…
I created this blog, as I thought it be nice to share with you some of my recipes and the odd idea on clean, sustainable living.
Here you will find a mixture of wheat-free, refined sugar free, dairy-free, vegan and vegetarian food.
So put the kettle on, pull up your chair and join me at the table.
